Ali and Sarah Flanders, Owners

Our story begins when our mom, Joy, moved into a tiny cabin in the woods of Chilmark on Martha’s Vineyard in 1986. Luckily for her, right next door was Chilmark Chocolates, a well loved chocolate shop. Joy quickly became friends with the owners, and she would stop in to the shop for daily treat. And that’s where our taste for good chocolate began.

After 10 years of walking through the woods, over a stream, and past Chilmark Chocolates on our commute to Menemsha School (now known as Chilmark School), we got our first jobs there. From then until 2019 we worked there periodically, and saw firsthand how chocolate can brighten someone’s day and bring people together.

After college, we left the island to explore the world and different avenues of interest- adventure tourism and event management for Ali, and floristry and gardening for Sarah. But we soon found our island home of Martha’s Vineyard was calling us back.

Ali had developed business-savvy skills and Sarah had found a love for hands-on creativity. Their combined skills and love for chocolate was the perfect opportunity to create Salt Rock Chocolate Company!

Our mission is to bring joy into people’s lives through good chocolate. Chocolate that can be a part of celebrations and gatherings. Chocolate that can be stashed in a backpack and flown across the world to be shared. Chocolate that is so delicious, you might steal a few out of the box before you gift it to someone (which we may be guilty of!)

Our chocolates are influenced by the colors and tastes of the island we grew up on. We love the process of hand-making each chocolate and are excited to share it with you!
